Time Travelby ~EmpressFunk

Oh, Eric. Kindred doesn't have any dinosaurs in it--it's not that kind of time traveling.

I actually read this book a few days after my friends and I were having a conversation about time travel. "If you had to have a body part cut off each time you traveled to the past, would you still do it?" was the question. My answer was a look much like what Karen's giving in the seventh panel. It's the "Look at me again and think about what you just asked me" stare. Hell no, I wouldn't travel to the past, and that was even if I could've kept all my limbs and appendages.

And then I read Kindred by Octavia Butler, which is about a black woman who time travels back to the antebellum South. Eric's panels are almost a literal representation of myself reading the book. I seriously could not put it down, but also probably made those faces too.

I love the facial expressions in the last panel.

I actually did have a funny conversation with some friends from an AP history class about time travel. When they asked what point in time I would go back to my answer was "I'm black and a chick. You might be able to maybe drag me into the 1980s but that's where I draw the line."
It was an awkward kind of "oh yeahh" moment xD

This also reminds me of a Louis CK comedy bit [link] he starts talking about time travel around 0:45

I love Octavia Butler, and I've only read her 'Parable of the Sower' (which, by the way, is amazing and you should check it out if you have time). Now I need to read 'Kindred'!

But this is a really cute strip. :3 I love the hug at the end, so sweet. ^^

I can't tell you how much I love this. Words can't describe. I did the exact same thing, except it was Magyk by Angie Sage and I said to my best friend: "Please, promise me that if the midwife says your seventh son is dead just CHECK FOR YOURSELF!!!! IF YOU LOVE YOUR FUTURE SON, CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!" Really weird book...

Oh yeah. But the weirdest thing is, is that the time travelling isn't even until the third book...when they fall through a mirror.
